Redwings Men open season with a friendly vs. Frankfurt

Last sunday, March 30th, the Redwings Men opened their summer season with a friendly vs. league feud Frankfurt. The Game itsself was not that important though, as the time tried to give everyone playing time after a long winter and everyone had to get used to the harder, heavier balls. So the 5:17 loss, doesnt really affect the teams expectations, especially if you consider that the teams Starting Lineup held Frankfurt scoreless, even without a hit until the 5.Inning, when the team led 5:0 before the 2nd team came on the field and surrendered a couple of runs, but most important was getting the playing time in. Thats all that mattered. Next sunday that will be a different story, when the team will open its season in Kassel. The team will be without newcomers Mike Mosier, Ian Crancer and Rodolfo Montiel, who still need a player release from their home federations. The team will have a stretch off tough away games to open the season as the first 6 games will be against league favorites Kassel, Friedberg and Fulda. That will also give the team a pointer of which directino the season will go, so they are all lookin forward to it.

New players find a home with the Redwings :

After a string of really strong performances during the 2007 season, which led to the league title, the Redwings have several new additions to the team.

First addition is Rodolfo Montiel, who joins the team away from Frankfurt 1860. He has been playing in Germany for several years and has been facing the Redwings quite some time and has left a strong impression. He was also able to gain some experience in the Regionalliga.
As utility player, who is also able to pitch Rodolfo will be valuable to the team. The only question mark is, if he can regain his form after a one year break away from the game.

Another player, who has faced the Redwings as late as last season is Johannes Stichling, the Best Better of the Landesliga Nord, which the Redwings won, where he played for his old team the Wiesbaden Flyers. He is another guy that can pitch, something that will be important considering the additional innings that have to be played this year.

Tobi Trautmann will also be joining the team from one of last years opponents, the Babenhausen Blue Devils. His team finished third in the Landesliga Süd and Tobi will give the Redwings another option in the Outfield.

The final newcomer, who has played before is Mike Mosier. The American has been living in Germany for a while, but it was his kids that lead him to the Redwings and they are already practicing with the Kids team. Although Mike´s most recent playing days are a couple of years ago, you can already see he has a baseball mind set and will be an important role player.

Ian Crancer and Emal Ewaz are two more players, who have joined the team. Without any previous playing experience it will remain to be seen, what impact they will have on the team, but they will get on playing level in time. And we are happy to add some more talent to our roster.

With all the new additions, who might also include long time captain Richard Hilgart, who only played in one game last year due to working abroad and all the returning players (no players left the team) the future looks bright for the team, just before their move to a new field next year. What is important for the Redwings is that all players have chosen to join the club themselves.
